On Oct. 24^th, Merck to Report Results for Acomplia Rival ,Taranabant

At reunion ofThe Obesity Society’s annual scientific,which will be in New Orleans ,Merck is planning  to deliver on Wednesday, October 24th the first official report about the results of trials of its new diet drug Taranabant which works by blocking CB-1 receptors just as like Sanofi’s rimonabant(which can be bought online) .

Is expected to present the report entitled “effects of taranabant(the rival of ,the drug that can be bought online,rimonabant), a new cannabinoid-1 receptor (CB-1R) inverse agonist, on patients with obesity over 12 weeks” the senior director of clinical research for Merck,Dr. Ngozi Erondu.

The base of this report will be the results of Merck’s phase IIa trials of the diet drug,that was known then as L-000899055 or MK-0364.

For the motiv that a phase III trial drug with 2,400 participants of the diet for nearly two years has been underway, this doesn’t sound like a very full picture of Merck’s trial experience with taranabant. Nevertheless this will be the first public report on the studies of its diet pill, of any kind by Merck .

Merck hasn’t provided until now data on weight loss or other cardio-metabolic results for study participants, in a serios contrast to Sanofi-Aventis, which alimented the excitement over its CB-1 receptor antagonist rimonabant (Acomplia / Zimulti,sold online) with updates on encouraging weight-loss results from its clinical tries,

A spokesperson from Merck said that the company is not planning to present any data until 2008, from the phase III trial.

Despite that fact the news about taranaban,t from the phase IIa trial is expected to be very positive. The question that is likely to be asked in New Orleans, however, will be about taranabant’s side-effects.
